• Turbata Libertà di un Incanto

  «Senza trucco e senza inganno»
  Quante volte quella frase aveva solcato il copione della sua vita da prestigiatore, mentre lui ammaliava sguardi bramosi d'illusione. E quante volte aveva riecheggiato subdolamente incontrando lo sguardo della madre.
  Fino al giorno in cui capì di essere stato lui spettat(t)ore di un'illusione. Da sempre.
  A lui, che per mestiere danza con i dettagli ad ogni messa in scena, una sola, incauta parola sfuggita alla madre era bastata a scatenare l'agnizione: per incanto, una madre naturale ed un fratello vibrarono alla ribalta della sua vita. E se la vita è una ruota che gira, per snaturare la sua ne era bastato un mezzo giro solamente.
  Come per incanto una fotografia, da sempre in attesa in camera oscura di omertà, si sviluppò proprio di fronte ai suoi occhi. Scorgerla ed afferrarla fu questione di un istante. Ma il gesto si infranse tra le dita della madre e le due mani avverse conquistarono un frammento ciascuna, lacerando per la seconda volta quel legame di sangue.
  Lei tornò a velarsi di mistero e a lui non rimase altro che quel cieco brandello d'identità. Per giorni rimase in ascolto di ogni singolo dettaglio; l'unico a parlargli era quella voglia della mano sinistra. L'unico cordone ombelicale, flebile ed etereo. L'orizzonte della sua esistenza si è ristretto da allora ossessivamente al dorso delle mani femminili e ogni giorno ne naviga le vene, con la speranza di tuffarsi in quella voglia.
  Un nuovo gioco di prestigio impreziosisce il suo repertorio: sulla mano della prescelta, in quel punto esatto, una voglia compare per incanto. Lui lo esegue ardentemente sperando ad ogni occasione che si riveli vano e che la sospirata mano si sveli al suo sguardo; lasciando per una volta a bocca aperta il prestigiatore, davanti ad un'illusione che si tramuta in realtà. Senza più trucco né inganno.

  Turbata libertà degli incanti (Articolo 353 del Codice di procedura penale, 1930): Chiunque, con violenza o minaccia, o con doni, promesse, collusioni o altri mezzi fraudolenti, impedisce o turba la gara nei pubblici incanti o nelle licitazioni private per conto di pubbliche Amministrazioni, ovvero ne allontana gli offerenti, è punito con la reclusione fino a due anni e con la multa da lire duecentomila a due milioni.

  Da una cartolina d'epoca, esattamente un secolo fa…
  Il testo prende ispirazione dalle ruote degli esposti e dall'abitudine di abbandonarci, insieme al neonato, alcuni elementi distintivi (spesso la metà di un santino strappato) in vista di eventuali identificazioni.

  «Without tricks or pretense»
  How many times that expression has been cutting through the script of his life as a conjurer, while enthralling gazes eager for illusion. And how many times it had been echoing deviously locking eyes with the mother.
  Until the day he realised he indeed had been being a specta©tor of an illusion. Always.
  A sole, incautious word let slip by the mother had been enough for him, who at every mise en scène is accustomed to dance with details because of his profession, to unchain the agnition: As if by magic, a natural mother and a brother vibrated on the apron stage of his life. And if life is a wheel that turns, only half a rotation had been enough to denature his one.
  As if by magic a photography, awaiting until then into a darkroom of omerta, developed before his very eyes. Glimpsing and grabbing it was a matter of an instant. But the gesture shattered throughout the mother’s fingers and the two adverse hands conquered a fragment each, ripping that blood tie for the second time.
  She resumed veiling herself with mystery and he remained with nothing but that blind shred of identity. He was staying for days listening to each single detail; the only one speaking to him was that birthmark of the left hand. The only umbilical cord, feeble and ethereal. The horizon of his existence has shrunken obsessively since then towards the back of female hands and each day he is sailing their veins, in the hope of plunging into that birthmark.
  A new conjuring trick is adorning his repertoire: Upon the hand of the chosen one, in that very point, a birthmark shows up as if by magic. He is accustomed to perform it ardently always hoping that it might reveal itself vain and that the yearned-for hand might unveil to his sight; for once leaving open-mouthed the conjurer, before an illusion turning into reality. With no longer tricks or pretense.

  Turbata libertà degli incanti is a misdemeanour provided for by Italian law, partially corresponding to bid rigging. Given that the Italian noun incanto has a double meaning (enchantment and auction), the title might be literally translated as Disturbed Liberty of an Enchantment.

  The text draws inspiration from the foundling wheels and the habit of leaving inside, together with the newborn, some distinctive elements (often the half of a holy card) with a view of possible identifications.

• L'Essenza Residua

  Quella notte le due gocce caddero puntuali sui loro colli, infrangendosi delicate e salvifiche.
  Caddero per mano della nonna, così come ogni altra notte degli anni precedenti sin dal giorno in cui i timori si tramutarono in diagnosi: prosopagnosia.
  Loro, le gemelle, non lo sapevano; ma erano in grado di riconoscersi a vicenda solo grazie a quell'essenza, quella e solo quella. Loro, due gocce d'acqua, rese siamesi da due gocce di profumo. La nonna sì che sapeva, lei devota vestale; lei che ogni notte apriva silenziosamente il cassetto, estraendo con cura una boccetta. Lei che, alla notizia del fallimento del produttore, si tolse il pane di bocca pur di fare incetta di quella linfa preziosa.
  Lei sapeva che quella notte le due gocce sarebbero cadute puntuali sui loro colli, infrangendosi delicate e salvifiche.
  Quelle due gocce,
  le ultime residue…

  The Essence Residual

  That night the two droplets fell punctual on their necks, sprinkling delicate and salvific.
  They fell at the grandmother’s hand, as well as any other night of past times since the day when fears turned into diagnosis: Prosopagnosia.
  They, the twin sisters, were not aware of it; but they were able to recognise each other only thanks to that essence, that very one. They, as like as two peas in a pod, made conjoined by two perfume droplets. The grandmother was aware indeed, she devoted vestal; she who every night has been silently opening the drawer, withdrawing with care an ampoule. She who, upon hearing about the manufacturer’s bankruptcy, took the bread out of her mouth in order to hoard that precious sap.
  She was aware that the two droplets would have fallen punctual on their necks that night, sprinkling delicate and salvific.

• L'Effimero Perfetto

  Nessuno ha mai scattato questa fotografia.
  Ogni giorno della sua vita lui si era posto di fronte all'obiettivo, scattando un autoritratto. Sulla ribalta di un teatro che non aveva mai visto spettatori, anelava alla posa perfetta.
  Quel giorno la raggiunse, ma la pellicola s'inceppò. E questa fotografia è l'unica testimonianza inesistente di quel momento…

  Una riflessione sui misteri e sulle ossessioni delle nostre esistenze personali; sulla ricerca della perfezione e sulla potenzialità delle apparenze.
  Il testo dell'opera è anche concettualmente visibile e leggibile osservando la fotografia, essendone parte a tutti gli effetti: è stato infatti inglobato in essa mediante steganografia (tecnica già utilizzata nell'antichità allo scopo di celare messaggi, cifrati o meno | OpenStego).

  The Perfect Ephemeral

  Nobody had ever taken this photograph.
  Each day of his life he was setting himself in front of the lens, shooting a self-portrait. On the apron stage of a theatre that never had audience, he was yearning for the perfect pose.
  That day he reached it, but the film conked out. And this photograph is the sole non-existent testimony of that moment…

  A reflection about mysteries and obsessions in our personal existences; about the pursuit of perfection and the potentiality of appearances.
  The text of the work is also conceptually visible and readable observing the photograph, being part of that to all intents and purposes: Actually, it’s been embedded on that by means of steganography (a technique already used since antiquity in order to conceal messages, whether encoded or not | OpenStego).
